I am sorry to report we have decided to cancel the event. We simply did not recieve enough participation.
The 2011 Great Upstate NY Challenge
1250 miles of Upstate NY on Kick-Only Antique motorcycles.
The 74 Shop and the Barber Family will be hosting a 5 day antique motorcycle road trip in Upstate NY after the AMCA Rhinebeck National Super Meet.
The route will cover some of the best areas Upstate NY has to offer. You'll see the Catskill Mountains, Adirondack Mountains, Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario, Niagara Falls, The St. Lawrence Seaway & 1000 Islands, Lake Champlain and More!
The only rules are you must ride a kick-only motorcycle that is at least 35 years old and come to have a good time! This is a ride for the true antique motorcycling enthusiasts. This is a mix of the best of an AMCA style Road Run combined with the adventure of the Motorcycle Cannonball ~ A motorcycle vacation and an antique motorcycle challenge!
We'll ride between 200-300 miles a day with an average of 250 per day. There will be recommended lunch stops, gas stops, HD dealers, and scenic rest stops just like a traditional AMCA Road Run. The difference here is that we'll end at a different location every night.
We'll travel on the most scenic and motorcycle friendly roads we can while hitting some great towns where we can enjoy some good local food & drinks. There will be no Interstate travelling on this run.
The real challenge is to show up with a motorcycle that is well serviced and well prepared for the trip. The same goes for the riders. Make sure you, your passenger and your bike are up to the trip. This is not a shakedown run for your fresh rebuild or restoration. This is for the well ridden bike and well travelled rider. You will have to carry your own tools and supplies. I am hopeful to have a lunch stop at an antique friendly HD dealer in the middle of the trip so you can get oil and other supplies along the way.
My support truck will be carrying emergency fuel, oil & tools if necessary along with an air compressor and whatever else I can fit in. The support truck & trailer will have room for about 6 bikes but the truck cab can only carry 4-5 people. You are also allowed to have your own support truck follow you for the trip if you like just like we all did during the Motorcycle Cannonball. The more the better.
I'm also offering a luggage service. Each rider/passanger will be allowed one airline sized carry-on to be stored in the support trailer. There will be designated times for pick up/drop off every day as the trailer will be kept locked.
Every rider & passenger on this trip will be required to sign a release form upon check-in.
